What the points system is

Spain uses a points-based licence (permiso por puntos). New drivers typically start with fewer points than experienced drivers; serious offences can remove points and, in heavy cases, lead to loss of the licence.

Exact point values and recovery rules are set by Spanish law and can change — always verify on dgt.es / boe.es. TeoriaPass is independent practice, not the DGT.

Why theory exams ask about points

Theory questions often test whether you know that some offences cost points, that novice drivers have stricter alcohol limits, and that losing all points has serious consequences.

Use free TeoriaPass mocks to see how these ideas appear in MCQ wording.

Study tip

Do not memorise outdated social-media lists. Learn the concept (points can be lost; recovery takes time and courses) and confirm current tables officially before exam day.
